Om West is one of Montreal's few studio where students have an opportunity to learn Yoga in its complete form. Our classes and workshops allow you to discover yoga in its popular exercise form and, for those who wish, in its traditional spiritual form which includes breathing techniques, meditations, mantras, yogic wisdom, chanting, Ayurveda, and lifestyle. Om West is also a Registered Yoga School (RYS-500) with Yoga Alliance allowing students to get certified upon graduating from our teacher training programs.
Drop-in classes are offered daily. They require no commitment, no advance reservations, no membership, they are open to everyone, and you can join any class any time. Clich the links below to get a more detailed description of the different styles we offer.
Come find out one of the many things that makes Om West so spectacular. From June to September, when weather permits, some drop-in classes (specially marked on our schedule) may be waterfront, at the lake, just steps away from the Centre. Meeting point is always at the Centre.
Learning Breathing Techniques
Breathing techniques are known in yoga for quieting the mind, helping to reduce stress, anxiety, fatigue, anger and depression. More advanced techniques can also help with sleeping disorders, with overcoming addictions, for improving digestion and vitality and flushing out toxins from the system. They are extremely effective and their daily practice can profoundly improve your health as well as the quality of your life.
Om West in collaboration with the international Art of Living Foundation is proud to bring you the Art of Living Course, the most in-depth and life impacting course focusing on the breath and on the yogic lifestyle.
Art of Living CourseIn addition to our general adults course, the Art of Living Course is also offered at Om West in a kids version (ages 8-12) and a version for teens (ages 13-17).
This course, also designed by the Art of Living Foundation, gives you an initiation into the sacred practice of mantra meditation as practised for millenniums by the masters of the yoga tradition.
Learning Yoga Philosophy
This course allows you to dive deep in the wisdom of yoga as laid out in the classical text: Yoga Sutras ofPatanjali. This practical knowledge is studied in interactive group discussions and is designed to give us an in-depth understanding of the mind, it's patterns, its tendencies and how to overcome them.
The Art of Living is an international not-for-profit volunteer-based NGO active in over 150 countries. Founded by world humanitarian Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, the Foundation's mission is to offer personal development programs that allow individuals to enhance the quality of their lives and to offer service project initiatives. Om West is home to the West Island Chapter of the Art of Living Foundation.
